| This is really tiny and I love carrying it all the time. I had the A10, A30 and now the A40 and they are all great cameras. This has easy access to flash options (off, on, red eye, soft etc) as well as focal lengths (macro, super macro, infinity etc). The screen is nearly as big as the camera and makes for great viewing of your photos and movies. The flash works pretty good, even up to distances of greater than 20 feet. It's really easy to set up and understand. The zoom is steady and you can view the screen all the time you're zooming with little or no distortion. I notice a slight purple cast from outdoor light coming in from windows (indoors), but I have a Canon sd950is that does the same thing, so I think this is something with most if not all digital cameras. It's so small and light it's really nice to carry around and the photos are really fantastic. The anti shake is the best I've seen on any brand of digital camera, I have a 16 month old I'm always chasing around, so I really appreciate the anti shake feature. It's a hundred dollars less then the Canon and I'm not sure why because I like the Pentax better. |

| Got the camera for my wife to replace one that broke. She doesn't go anywhere without it, is always snapping pix. Not an SLR or anything professional, but great quality for its size, great for all-around picture taking. |
Good easy to use.

Awesome!!!! I was looking for the right camera for the last 5 years. I had a Nikon P1 8Mpixels excellent, nothing to say, also a Panasonic Lumix 12MPixels, excelent too, but very difficult to handle when you want simple pictures.
This Pentax is the best camera I ever had. Very powerful, awesome pictures, very light, cheap, high quality frame, different focus modes, fully automatic, very compact, nice zoom capabilities and fast, super fast. Also great pictures on 0 light during night. Very sensitive. It also has movement isolating system, antivibration and it has a mode where it reaches people faces for a better shooting.
If you are looking for the best digital camera ever, this is the one!!!
Buy it!!! I'm very happy with this camera. Simply the best one!! |

| We had the optio A20 but we had an accident and dropped the camera. So we found this one (A40). Its almost like the A20. I loved the A20, now I love the A40. Easy to use, easy to edit pics (using computer software) & capture video. |
Pentax Optio A40 --- Rocks MTV

My favorite electronics brand is Sony. But like many other brands, Sony does not let you put the date on each photo you take anymore.
Date stamp is the most important feature to me. I want to look back 10 years down the road and know instantly when the picture was taken. Fortunately Pentax cameras allow you to do that.
I always knew Pentax cameras were great! This Optio A40 is absolutely awesome. Totally love it. I bought Nikon's S60 earlier but hated the picture quality so I returned it. This A40 offers superb quality photos. Yes, Canon shots are the sharpest. But again, Canon doesn't have the Date Stamp feature so I don't want it.
I do a lot of global traveling, surfing and snowboarding each year. This camera absolutely rocks and fits the purpose.
Being a marketing guy myself, I am very finicky about the brand and its image. Pentax rocks amongst all brands out there --- solid, practical, no-frills. Not everyone has it. Not many people know it since it's not on the shelf of typical electronics store.

| This is my first digital camera. I went with Pentax because I've used a Pentax K1000 ever since I was a teenager. I ran across the A40 when I was looking for a camera that would work with a Macintosh computer. The A40 is great and very easy to use. All my friends are impressed with the pictures it takes. |

This camera was recommened by PC World and highly rated in Consumer Reports. It is last year's model so it was considerably less expensive than when it is was new. Also, Pentax was bought out by Hoya so the newer cameras will have the new name.
So far, the camera has performed flawlessly. I bought this one because of the ratings and because it has a rechargeable battery. I find using AA or AAA's to be a pain in the neck. It is definitely a bargain. |
I was happy, but...

New feedback may 2008!
I have had this camera for several months right now, i am going to change it for a SONY cybershot 12.1, This Pentax is a good machine but i am not happy with some topics:
CONS: A lot of grain images at high ISO, also not so good pictures at 12mp specially landscapes in sunny environments (I live in South america and those are frecuent situations)
Manuel
Hi, this little machine is nice, small and has outstading resolution
I have used it for one week, i will update my review in one month
Pros: Size, large images, display, easy to use menu, price (outstanding qualiy for low price)
Cons: It is slow using flash, video is just good enough
